At FPL, we're working together with the communities we serve to make Florida an even better place to work and raise a family. Our employees and their families - our strongest connection to our communities - donate thousands of volunteer hours each year to make a difference in their communities. In 2020, employee volunteers contributed more than 32,800 hours in their local communities through company-sponsored projects and their own personal volunteer time. Additionally, 250+ community organizations have employees volunteering on their boards.
The final numbers are in and we’re happy to report that more than 680 volunteers across 10 states participated during FPL's thirteenth annual Power to Care Week this year. Thank you to all our employee volunteers, friends and family members, and executive leadership for participating in over 1,070 different service projects, all to give back to the communities we serve. These service projects included paracord “survival” bracelet making, a letter writing campaign for military service members and frontline workers, litter pickup and more. The 2021 Power to Care, Serving Apart Together campaign was reimagined due to coronavirus (COVID-19), featuring service projects that could be done safely and remotely at any time during the two-week campaign, and employees enterprise-wide were invited to participate.
The Dollars for Doers program allows us to recognize, support, and encourage the valuable contributions of our employees' volunteer efforts. Our Dollars for Doers program rewards qualifying nonprofit organizations for the volunteer work of NextEra Energy employees when certain criteria are met. Thanks to employees logging their volunteer hours, the NextEra Energy Foundation distributed $133,000 worth of Dollars for Doers grants to over 300 deserving nonprofit organizations across the country in 2020.
